Hi, Yes you can download only a part of the catalog for testing but be sure you not request a chart with star outside the part you download. The best is to select a one degree FOV around Polaris, then check the GSC catalog.
Use the "HST GSC Compact" line in the catalog setting as the GCT-ACT use this format. When downloading the catalog you must keep the directory structure N0000 ... S8230. Each of this directory contain .GSC files numbered from 0001.GSC to 9537.GSC. This is all you need, but I suggest you also get the regions.* files as other software may use them. To check you have the right files look at the file size for N8230\4615.GSC, it must be 67624 bytes.
