  Thanks for all these interesting "observations."  I should have 
mentioned that I am using v 2.75.3.  Can someone give me a URL where 
I can get v.3 (still a beta, isn't it?), please. I do think the 
aspect ratio indeed is a factor, since it would affect the scaling 
in each coordinate differently. My screen size is 1400x1050. A real 
simple experiment I can do is to change the screen resolution (which 
I haven't done) to see what happens in that case. I would rather see 
what v.3 has to offer, and then try the experiment if necessary!
