Hi Guys,
Perhaps in the short term, along with helping you document the existing code, Mathieu and I should try to make a proof of concept with Mono. A small program that is capable of displaying the BSC with minimal interactive interface would be a good start towards understanding the issues we would have with porting the whole project.Sure, that's sounds good plan...
I'll suggest that we document all first, understanding exactly what the pascal code does, and *then* we meet online to discuss of the migration plan....
But i've spend a lot of time only understanding the overall code last summer (and i'm not finished), so before hurrying and planning any conversion, i prefer to focus on the documentation, uml diags, and then we'll see.
I think that having a basic GUI in C# will be required for working on the migration of the core components. GUI is not what worries me the most actually.
In mid-December (the 13th to be exact) I will be leaving for Christmas vacation.
Same, on the 10th.
I probably won't be completely setup and going again until late January.Well, forget visualStudio.NET 2003; go fot the Visual Express Suite 2005 on .NET 2.0 (which works great and is free).
Regarding Mono, you are right, but let's wait a bit more for it to get more maturity.
On a side note, what do the two of you do for a living?I'm also a developer (.NET since beta 1 year 2000), and I just went back to study a Master in IT at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia.
I'm on the end of my degree now and found a part-time job for a company which builds Medical software.
Astronomy and space sciences are a hobby for me and i like to do volunteer work applying IT to these areas when I got time to.
Patrick, I didn't know that you were archeologist ????
Cheers Mathieu
