I am trying to generate some plots of the tracks of some 16th-century 
comets input manually from Brian Marsden's Catalog.  I keep getting 
the "invalid floating decimal point" error.  I have version 2.75 with 
the basic package.  I have tried varying the eccentricity and 
inclination, changing the epoch from 1950 to 2000, changing the 
projection, and selecting dates from the 16th century to the 
present.  ('Calendar' doesn't work, either.)  Capriciously, once, and 
once only, when I selected all 5 comets plus one in the built-in 
database, I got a display of instantaneous positions of all 6 comets, 
and I thought I was making progress, but I have been unable to repeat 
this partial success.
