Your Required fields for this catalog should be: RA(hours),DEC sign, DEC (degrees), Catalog ID, and Magnitude (mag). The rest are optional but including them will improve the usefulness of the catalog. I am just guessing here but you may not be getting CatGen to define the fields properly. The method I use it to first click the field, highlighting it but being careful not to accidentally check mark it. Next go down to the position window, where the data in the actual catalog of is displayed and highlighting the positions where the data occurs. Now go back up and check the box in the field description. That locks the field to the field position in the actual data file.
In your example: for RA (hours) you would first highlight [RA (hours)], leave box unchecked. Go down to the data display and highlight positions 15 and 16, then go back up and "Check" mark the RA (hours) box. Do the same for the rest of the fields. bob --- In [email protected], "R Arber" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Bob Rose, or someone at group, please: > I have copied byte order info., (please see below) that I entered at window # 3 in CatGen 1.3 (please note I added zeros as Cat Gen did not anticipate more bytes further along into catalog. > > 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 > 1234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890 1234567890 > 208 .96 12 .58 3 37 58. 261 90 23 22 49. 63 96 . 63 . 200000 0000 000 000 000 000 > > I find 20 fields and have entered 20 fields, but every time get error message, i.e. <Required Field Missing!> > Please explain where I have gone wrong? > > I hope everything lines up in posting! > The catalog referred to is <CDS I/90 Positions of 502 Stars in Pleiades Region (Eichhorn+ 1970)> > > Byte-by-byte Description of file: catalog.dat > -------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ > Bytes Format Units Label Explanations > -------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ > 1- 4 I4 --- Hertzsprung Number in Hertzsprung's (1947) catalogue > 5- 8 F4.2 mag CI Colour index > 9- 14 F6.2 mag Ptm Photovisual magnitude > 15- 16 I2 h RAh Right Ascension, Equinox=B1900, Epoch=1955.0 > (hours) > 18- 19 I2 min RAm Right Ascension B1900 (minutes) > 21- 26 F6.3 s RAs Right Ascension B1900 (seconds) > 28- 30 I3 0.1ms e_RAs Standard error on RA > 31 A1 --- DE- Declination, Equinox=B1900, Epoch=1955.0 > (sign) > 32- 33 I2 deg DEd Declination B1900 (degrees) > 35- 36 I2 arcmin DEm Declination B1900 (minutes) > 38- 42 F5.2 arcsec DEs Declination B1900 (seconds) > 43- 45 I3 mas e_DEs Standard error on DE > 47- 50 F4.2 --- rmsRA r.m.s. value for RA (1) > 52- 55 F4.2 --- rmsDE r.m.s. value for DE (1) > 56- 59 I4 0.1mas/yr rpmRA ?
