I build a new Sky2000 from the last V4 http://mmfd.gsfc.nasa.gov/dist/generalProducts/attitude/ATT_SKYMAP.html It seem there is only few change from the V3.
I get the same result for this two stars: BD+35 916 : 8.63 BD+35 917 : 8.08 Also your example in Auriga BD+37 1182 still show 8.58. The problem here is the star duplicity, the Sky2000 give the magnitude of the main component but other like Hipparcos the combined magnitude. As you observe with low power this is this combined magnitude you need. Tycho-2 also list the two separated component, this is not the best solution. The problem with Hipparcos is you are near the magnitude limit of the catalog so it probably miss some star you need. Maybe the best is to use Sky2000 and Hipparcos at the same time, you beneficiate from the combined Hipparcos magnitude and complete some missing star with Sky2000. Anyway I prepare a new package for Sky2000 V4 to replace the one on the download page. Patrick ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> $9.95 domain names from Yahoo!.
