Looks to me as is the star trails were shot in Australia. Might be one of David Malin's images from the AAT collection. The fellow with the beard certainly looks like an indigenous Australian.
The lighting on the people was obviously set up in a studio, and the sky/landscape background was probably "blue-screened". 25 years ago I worked for a photo studio, and we had this elaborate gizmo to place interesting backgrounds behind folks sitting for portraits with our 8 X 10 view camera. Down in my basement is a "test shot" of me sitting "in" the Orion Nebula...Of course nowadays it's all done with PhotoShop! Just this past weekend we had a big travel expo here in Washington, and the National Geographic folks were taking digital pix of people posing against a green background into which they could insert any location from the top of Mt.
