Robin,
Maybe these hints will give you some insight.

I'm sure you're setting the CdC directory pointer to the
right directory: it should be: /usr/share/skychart/cat/gsc/.
Underneath this directory are the further directories like N0000,
N0730, etc., and under each of them are the *.gsc files. You already
have it structured this way, I believe.

Which GST catalog did you choose on the Stars 2 tab? It's
probably not the first choice, "HST GSC original FITS," since this
version of the catalog is hard to come by these days, and it is not
easy and requires work to reconstruct out of the CDS-Strasbourg
archives. CDS does not archive the original FITS formatted GSC.

I don't know what the third CdC choice is looking for. I've
never worried about that one.

The second option, "HST GSC compact" is the choice I make,
and it operates with the compact-binary form of the GSC that is
available from CDS-Strasbourg.

I would note that you can get the HST GSC through several
different links on CDS. If you download from <ftp://cdsarc.u-
strasbg.fr/pub/cats/I/254/GSC/>, then you get the compact-binary
form of GSC 1.2 that CdC is supposed to work with. The first file,
0001.gsc, is 31,404 bytes (mine is dated May 24, 1999).

I know absolutely nothing about Linux. Does CdC work on a
linux machine?

Good luck,
Dick
