Read the instructions at the top of the "additional catalogs" page where you downloaded this catalog. I don't understand the differences myself, but this is an "external" catalog (I don't know what that means, but it seems to be different from "catalogs generated with catgen"). First unzip/extract it to your ciel folder (if done right, it will end up in the folder ..\ciel\cat\externes\lx200). Then click preferences->catalogs and object parameters... to bring up the catalogs window. But in this window, do _not_ click the "catalogs" tab. Instead, click the "magnitude" tab. The rest is somewhat similar to before- from the instructions you found for "catalogs generated by catgen", scroll further down until you get to "external catalog according to magnitude" I found one discrepancy however: on the "additional catlogs" page, it says (instead of looking for .hdr file) you'll be looking for a .cdm or .cds file. There is another type of external catalog "by size" (instead of by magnitude). "Size" is for catalogs of DSOs, "magnitude" is for catalogs of stars. The instructions say .cd_s_ is for "size" and .cd_m_ is for magnitude. But the alignment star catalog has cd_s_ files. I haven't tried it, but if it doesn't work as a "catalog by magnitude", maybe you need to install it as a "catalog by size". Instructions are just below the instructions for "catalog by magnitude". Use the "size" tab rather than the "magnitude" tab in the catalogs window. -John __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
