I will re-install both v2 and v3 so I can run them at the same time.
I have turned of the image library, it made it somewhat smaller. Still, when
I use the arrow buttons to move or the scroll wheel to zoom it can take a
second or more to redraw. I did have asteroids on but no comets. Both are
off now.
Do you store your current configuration in an ini file or something? That
would make it easy for me and others to tell you exactly how we have CdC
configured in case of (perceived) trouble.

You can have V2 and V3 at the same time but on the same directory.
Install first the V2 then the V3 at the same place.
There is many difference between the two version that can affect the
performance.
V3 must be quicker when you move the chart using the middle button
because it now use a partial drawing during the move.
SQL is only use for asteroid, comet and image library. Try without this
function to look for any difference. On my computer (about the same as
your) this don't make any difference.
The only visible slowdown is when the calendar date change because the
program compute the approximate asteroid position for the new day. I
must add a progress indicator here, specifically if the number of know
asteroid continue to grow at the same rate.
The catalog data are already cached in memory, the memory usage must
increase with the time if you use a big catalog and scroll over the sky.
You can try to redraw the chart with some function on or off and look
for the difference.
For me the biggest difference is with the label if there is many label
on the chart. This is the price for the new individually moving label.
Maybe I can replace them by static label until you decide to move one.
