You can turn off the Hipparcos catalog (preferences-->catalogs and object
parameters-->catalogs, click the green box in front of "hip").
Hipparcos is something of a "specialty" catalog. All its stars are also
contained in other catalogs- the Hipparcos catalog just gives distance data
(and probably more accurate position data, if you really need sub-arcsecond
precision).
