There are also nebulas in some galaxies big enough to be seen.  M33 and M101
especially.  Several of these "HII regions" have their own NGC number.  NGC 604
in M33 is easy in an 8" scope under reasonable conditions.

The easiest globular cluster in another galaxy (but "another" may be a matter
of definition here) is M54.  It has, of course, been known since Messier's
time, and initially appears as just another globular in our galaxy, but only
about a decade ago it was discovered that there was a small galaxy being pulled
into our own, and it's currently within our galaxy, just opposite the Milky
Way's central hub from here.  It looks like M54 is part of that galaxy, not
originally part of our own.  See
