It looks as though he is parsing the D,M,S to a single decimal number 
and when the –00d is added to the remainder the sign is lost. Adding –
0 or +0 to anything doesn't change the sine of the number. Anyway I 
bet if you have –00d00m31s you would probably need to extend the sign 
to the seconds. i.e. –00d-00m-31s
