If you switch to polar mode, it will stay fixed on the same starfield (only
moving solar system objects will move).  But in this case the horizon won't be
shown, and only the eq grid can be used, so you might not like this option if
you want it to show you how it looks relative to your local sky (ie, relative
to your local zenith and horizons).
