Nice the telescope slew now but the screen refresh problem must be
corrected.
Can you open an issue for that in the bug tracker:

About the performance, Sander Pool report me the same problem but I
have difficulties to reproduce.
With my Celeron-D 3Ghz the refresh is always instantaneous, maybe one
tenth of a second. I also use the program on a PIII 450Mhz through a
VNC connection, the refresh is about half of a second.
Please also open an issue for that, describe your system the more
preciselly as possible, and add your cartesduciel.ini file.
