Mel, 2.76 is still available and 3.01.1 works fine next to 2.76. I have them both on all my PCs. In short, I have no idea what you're talking about. But if you're satisfied with your current version then that's fine of course. A google seach for 'cartes du ciel download' lists as the FIRST link
http://www.stargazing.net/astropc/download.html which is 2.76. Installing 3.x is simple and fool proof if you follow the instructions. Upgrading to recent snapshots is also easy if you know how to deal with .zip archives. Simply extract in your program directory (typically c:\program files\ciel). But if you're satisfied with your current version then that's fine of course.
