I noticed the same thing about the number of digits, but I thought that last
year's PGC also had over 1,000,000 galaxies.  I still had the old PGC
installation file, so I uninstalled the 2006 version and reinstalled the 2005
version.  Yes, there are more than 1 million glaxies, and yes the search
feature works for it.  But I also noticed an odd bug with last year's version
that I recall from previous use- PGC labels for galaxies show up twice, as in
"PGC1403868 PGC1403868" displayed next to the galaxy.  This doesn't happen with
the 2006 version.
