well, that sounds very ambitious! I would first do some experiments to
make sure the JVM is fast enough to create a responsive planetarium. As
you know there is lots of math going on behind the scenes and massive
amounts of data get processed. Patrick's choice of using Lazarus so he
can create native code for Windows and Linux is pretty smart. There are
other choices such as gcc and portable widget libraries. And Java. So
far I haven't been impressed with Javas portability though, some
applications require version this and others version that. Forget
running both on the same machine then. At least I couldn't make it work :)

As far as sourceforge goes, read the docs on how to apply for a workspace.
