The label will depend on what catalog is active at the FOV you're using (see
preferences>catalog and objects parameters, stars1 or stars2 tab, then note the
 "field min" and "field max" for each catalog).

Generally you set these to user smaller catalogs of brighter stars when viewing
a wide field, and use deeper catalogs for narrower views.  So the label for a
bright star in a wide field will show a common name or Beyer (greek letter)
designation (depending on your label options) from the "bright star catalog",
and then show a BD number from the Sky2000 catalog if you zoom in some, and
then show a Tycho number or whatever as you zoom in further.
