UCAC3 include a range of photometric information. The primary magnitude (used to set the dot size on the chart) must be one of the two internal measurement (aperture or fit) because the 2MASS or SuperCOSMOS information is sometime missing. I will personally prefer the aperture photometry for this use. Any other preference?
Then we need something similar to B-V to plot the star color. I thing the most direct way is to use the include SuperCOSMOS R and B magnitude to compute an approximate color the same way as for USNO-A. The include 2MASS photometry give the most precision but is this IR photometry (1.2, 1.6, 2.2 micron) useful for an amateur? We can add more photometric information available from the information window but remember that every numeric value add 400 MB to the catalog size. Patrick
