The constellation lines are in the file <ciel 
base>\data\constellation\*.cln.  (in windows - I haven't checked under 
linux) You could modify one of these files to shorten the lines, but the 
offset would not vary as you zoomed in or out.

If you use the "photographic" stars, the bitmaps are in <ciel 
base>\starshape.  You could modify these.  Actually, some of them 
already have diffraction disks, but I am not sure how (or if) you can 
select which shapes you use.  Perhaps someone else knows ?
(If diffraction spikes were put on stars by default, all the refractor 
users would be up in arms !)
