I am sure that everyone knows by now that Skype 4.1 has been released. Those
of us who depend on Skype on a daily basis can rejoice because skype has
implemented a number of accessibility features, which will make using the new
interface much easier. In fact using the new interface, I find that I prefer
it over the old. this of course is just my personal opinion for whatever it
is worth.
It is also good to be able to report that the Skype API has not changed
significantly, and therefore window eyes is doing an excellent job of reporting
status changes reading chat messages, etc.
Unfortunately, the scripts provided by GW micro for Skype have not fared so
well when it comes to the user interface. Most controls yield useless feedback
and do not report their types. Quite often when navigating through a list
control speech is lost completely. These scripts are in desperate need of an
update. I hope that GW micro will update these soon . So that Skype 4.1 will
be as usable or more usable than it is in jaws for Windows. A report on
forthcoming developments would be welcome.
