Hi Mathew!
I'm not sure about exactly model of Creative Audigy you're using but you 
should have one item in the Control panel called Audio HQ or Audio console. 
Somewhere in there you'll should find the "Headphone" tab and right on this 
tab there should be a checkbox saying "Mute speakers when connecting 
headphones" which should be unchecked for your needs. This option refers to 
Audigy cards which have an additional console, connected via external cable 
or built in in 5.25 slot on the desktop tower.
