Hmmmm, nevr screwed up on my system, and I only have an amd aphlon 64 2.3 ghz with 1 gig of ram, and it ran fine, even when converting audio. I can't speak for slower systems. as with anything, it depends what modifications you've done to your system etc. I've gone through and optimized and stream lined my system as much as I could when installing windows. I've also noticed that some voices appear to be more unstable than others. Personally, I only use the australian voices now from scansoft, so again, milage will varie.
I love the idea of choice since we're all different with different expectations and systems. It's what makes the world so interesting and frustrating. As we all know SAPI5 is not the most stable so if you were doing a memory intensive project, and SKRead had something to say, quite often you would see your system starter or pause while attempting to process the new speech data. You do not have this problem with SkypeWatch. Also SKRead needed a user interface having to edit an INI file or read lots of documentation is about the same as using SkypeWatch. I wrote to Sean suggesting that he used NSAPI for or better yet using the window-eyes and Jaws API. his plug-in for mirc does in fact do this. To make a long story short, there are advantages and disadvantages to both programs. I prefer SkypeWatch.
