Hi I poasted the answer a while back!
For some reason if you keep Skype in default view it will speak
online and offline statuses on contacts with no trouble.
You will have to do CTRL Tab to move through chats! But it's
better than notthing.
Not shure why Jaws won't while in compact though.

now when i go to my contacts i am able to use the control and
number key
instead of alt and the number key
also it no longer says unselected with each contact name
however when it comes to online and offline announcements i don't
get jaws
saying the person has gone offline or online
is there something i have not done or have i installed and set
this
correctly?
and how would i know if i have not installed anything or set
something up?
i have restarted the pc in the hope that this will cure but no
joy
what have i done wrong?

And by putting the jaws cursor on the "dot dot dot" and join to
pc you
can
sometimes see the speed of the transfer and how much has been
completed.
