Did they change the codec again in Skype 4? This podcast about radio stuff
makes it sound like they just did something, but I think that change has
been with us since 3.5 or maybe even 3.0. I know they did something so that
2.5 only sounds like a phone call over a landline, so I could see it
possible for them to disable old versions eventually.

I honestly don't think Skype 4.1 is harder to use, just different.
Skype 3.8 still works in many places but is no longer supported with
updates to scripts or Skype itself. I therefore consider Skype 3.8 an
emergency backup plan more than a current alternative.
