You're both right: MSAA is the best we have for a standard, so within reason, Skype is OK if they provide MSAA. However, the menus that don't speak are that way because they don't provide sufficient MSAA I think. Specifically, if a menu item does not provide an accName, it is not properly accessible.

It would still work fine. But for now I can tell you atleast two screen readers where skype 4.1 has problems. These are nvda and hal. So skype 3.8 needs to be there for us who don't use jaws as a primary screen reader. As I said I think you are doing a great job and I think it is skype that doesn't do things right and not you. Skype 3.8 was really accessible with all screen readers and they shouldn't change it. Skype 3.8 still works in many places but is no longer supported with updates to scripts or Skype itself. I therefore consider Skype 3.8 an emergency backup plan more than a current alternative.
