Hi Bob and list. Just to clear up some confusion here. I don't think Skype
has check boxes for popping up a window for contacts coming online or going
offline. However, there are check boxes for system tray notifications for
such events. Is this perhaps what you mean?

What I did was go into options and go to alerts and messages or something
like that. Then I checked the two boxes that say pop up a window when
someone comes online and goes offline. This worked with 3.8, but I haven't
gotten it to work since upgrading.

Hello Bob,
did you enable the SkypeWatch feature? If so, check the corresponding
sounds
in the sounds settings and make sure they're played. If not, then you must
have the same trouble that I have sometimes. One of the critical moment
for
me can be when I receive/start a call very shortly after signing in, or in
the past it could be if I plugged my USB headset, then turned on the pc
and
signed in to Skype.
