The number I hear before edit is not the number of the recipient, but is
actually my number, from which the message will be coming.
Pressing enter after typing the text message does not send the message when
the conversation window is spawned by choosing SMS message from the
contact's context menu.
I actually agree that announcing opening of the conversation window is over
the top, even though it isn't as obvious to some as it could be. In fact, I
guess it doesn't happen at all if one uses the default view, so we just take
it on faith that it has happened when the compact view is used and make it
clear in instructions we write. I'm writing a training module, because some
absorb that better than listening to a tutoriall because it can be Brailled
and followed on paper when useful, so have been working through oddities as
they've come up.

Ah, bit of confusion here: You do hear the phone number when you
focus the SMS text box, but that is not because the number is in the
box. The box is named after the recipient of the message, be it an
SMS or a normal Skype text message. When you're sending an SMS to a
phone number that is not in your contact list with a name, the "name"
is in fact the number itself. So you should be hearing the number
before the word "edit." Any text actually in the box would be spoken
after the word "edit."
Finding Send SMS is ok of course, but just pressing Enter when you're
done typing the SMS text should also send the message as far as I
know, just like in a regular Skype chat window.
I'm not sure why you ask for identification of when you get yourself
into the SMS window. Just like for chats, the SMS window is named
after the recipient. I don't know what better name to use. :-)

it's done. Pressing alt 1 now says message delivered and repeats the
message, so everything is perfectly clear.

I'm confused by this one. In all Skypes I remember of late, the edit
box for sending an SMS is exactly where the edit box for a normal text
chat would be, so Tab, Shift+Tab, and with scripts, Ctrl+4 will find
it. Are you seeing something different?
