The number I hear before edit is not the number of the recipient, but is actually my number, from which the message will be coming. Pressing enter after typing the text message does not send the message when the conversation window is spawned by choosing SMS message from the contact's context menu. I actually agree that announcing opening of the conversation window is over the top, even though it isn't as obvious to some as it could be. In fact, I guess it doesn't happen at all if one uses the default view, so we just take it on faith that it has happened when the compact view is used and make it clear in instructions we write. I'm writing a training module, because some absorb that better than listening to a tutoriall because it can be Brailled and followed on paper when useful, so have been working through oddities as they've come up.
