Thanks for the explanation. This problem sure seems odd when it can be
expressed in so many different ways. So basically, screen reader has to run
before Skype. I thought it was, but I'll check that. Cheers,

computer system that was giving you fits. Except this time the problem is
being expressed differently. If you're seeing those radio buttons for
skype
and classic windows then skype is not detecting that a screen reader is in
use.
So try unloading skype and restarting it. If that doesn't help then
unload
skype unload jaws restart jaws restart skype.
For your conversation issue I have to say that it might be related to the
first problem but it might also be related to compact view. Had a system
while in compact view no chats were seen at all. Considering the fact
there
is no real advantage to compact view try setting the view to default and
see
if that helps.
Finely I have to say this no a fence Doug. Skype talking does a much
better
job of getting chat information who is on line etc. getting to the chat
windows with skype talking is also a snap. So I would advice using skype
talking in conjunctions with the scripts.

Well I've seen this but I'm still missing something.
Skype is up to date 4.2.0.158
Scripts revision 42C.
They're running jaws 11.0.756U
Since they previously used 3.8, the instructions for configuring Skype
were
followed, so they are using comptact view.
Extended keyboard navigation is checked. I did find that group of radio
buttons with Skype window, which we changed to classic.
Options often do not read correctly. For example, in general, it announces

but doesn't say the meaning of the field.
They can find the conversation window, but when focused in it, the
commands
such as alt 1 say not in a conversation window.
What have I missed?
