Jim, just to clarify: Are yours Plantronics or something else? Also, what controls do you have? I gather muting is done by raising the mic, and I assume you have a headset volume control. Anything else?

What I can say about the two I've used follows: Freetalk: Best quality in a wireless headset I've seen: 60-foot range, eight hours battery give or take, less interferance issues than with the Logitech. A bit pricy at $79.00 perhaps. You buy this one from the Shop button in Skype; it may not be in stores. It's a bit bulky and squeezes my head a bit too much though. My model is old by now though, and the newer one is said to be smaller. Mine mutes the mic when you raise it vertical, and it actually has a button for answering Skype calls on Windows. I don't know if the current model does those things. Logitech: More comfortable for me at least, lighter and smaller and less of a squeeze on my head. Shorter range: I've had interferance at about 20-30 feet in some cases. Much less bass on transmission to whoever you're talking to, though whether that's good or bad may be a matter of opinion. Less bass in the earphones as well though, which can matter if you're playing music, but not so much for a Skype call. One interesting feature is that the Logitech charges only from the wall, whereas the Freetalk charges only from USB. This means you can charge the Logitech without being near your computer, but you can't charge it at all when you're not near AC power. The Logitech has a large mute button and also mutes when you raise the mic vertical, not sure why they did that both ways. I find this a disadvantage because I can't see the light that shows sighted people when it's sending or muted. I've learned how to tell most of the time by a small pop it makes when you put it on mute, so I can tap the mute button a time or two to make sure I'm not muted. The Logitech does not beep when it's about to die, it just dies. The Freetalk does beep, maybe even ten minutes early if I had to guess. So how does the Plantronics stack up with all this?
