If the problem of buttons ceasing to work after 15 or so occurs after you are transferred to another system, it could very well be related to the sensitivity of that system. I have experienced exactly this issue: I start working my way through menus by dialing tones, then at one point I am transferred to a subsystem with its own menus, and that subsystem is unable to interpret the tones I'm sending.
