??Could it be that jaws read the name of the folder wrong and renaming the folder simply refreshened jaws' reading of the folder?

I assume you mean this occurred while you were running the installer. Off the top of my head, I don't know what would have caused that. I do have a wild guess though: Maybe you have an "en" folder under Settings along with the normal "enu" folder, and the installer found it.
