Thanks for this Doug. I upgraded to Skype version 6.0 yesterday, and I'm
glad I'm not the only one experiencing problems with the typing sound
indicator. I've also noticed that during a chat JAWS doesn't announce the
chat messages as they appear, thus causing me to use Alt+numbers to check
for new messages. Just thought I'd point that out.

Skype 6.0 came out on Wednesday of this week. So far the only thing I
know of that doesn't work in Skype 6 with current scripts is the
typing indicator sound/announcement feature. I'm fixing that in an
upcoming script release, but I'm saying that release will only be
aimed at Skype 6 and later, not at older Skype versions.

The next Skype script release for JAWS will be aimed at Skype 6.0 and
later, but will not necessarily work with older Skype versions. This
allows me to clean out some code that applies only to old Skypes.
For the curious, this decision is prompted by Skype 6.0 having fixed
the typing indicator for us. This decision lets me remove code for
guessing at typing statuses that does not apply in Skype 6 and can
actually be wrong even in Skype 5.
This is not a script release announcement yet, though I hope to make
one of those soon.
For anyone who wants to use an older Skype, the older scripts will
remain on my site for a while as usual.
