I'll check out the end-of-Desktop-API article when I get a chance, but until then, a clarification:
The end of the Skype Desktop API does not mean the end of Skype on Windows at all. The Desktop API is simply a means by which third-party apps, like Clisk, SkypeTalking, and a lot of Skype-related utilities, can communicate with and/or control Skype. There is a newer API which I believe is called the Skype SDK or similar, and that Skype may be trying to use as a replacement for the Desktop API. And you are correct, the JAWS scripts I maintain for Skype do not use the Desktop API.
