I take a message here from an old thread I started when figuring out what JAWS versions were running my scripts out there, to address a point one user made that I missed until now.
The user points out that if, say, a French script version is altered to go to a French translation of the manual, I never see that in my web stats because I don't host that translation. A good point indeed. I do not wish to solve this by hosting all translations of the manual, largely because I could then not know what was being said on my own web site. (I have seen some interesting differences among translations of my scripts.) I might consider resolving this one by doing one of two things: Making a ping of my web site part of the script startup process, or providing a keystroke that sends me info but without loading a page into the user's browser. The first of those options is probably preferable because it would give me a much, much more accurate idea of what Skype, JAWS, and Windows versions are running out there and what sorts of problems people are having. I'm not sure if/when I'll get to this little project, but if I do it in the automatic way, it would probably make the most sense to do that as part of a long-requested feature that would let the scripts offer to update themselves. If I ever write that feature, I am sure to write the automatic info part as part of it, so I can make sure not to have the scripts update themselves to something that is wrong for what the user is running. I made a translation of this guide into Spanish as well as the script installation instructions and the explanation of the screen reader not detected error, and surely other people have done that into their own languages. -- Doug Lee [email protected] http://www.dlee.org SSB BART Group [email protected] http://www.ssbbartgroup.com "No person is your friend who demands your silence or denies your right to grow." --unknown source Thanks for posting to the skype english list. to contact skype support wiht any questions regarding your account email [email protected] To access scripts for the latest version of skype go to http://www.dlee.org/skype To contact the list owner send a message to mailto:[email protected] and for a searchable archives page go here. http://bit.ly/64Y48 thanks and have a wonderful day. _______________________________________________ Skypeenglish mailing list [email protected] http://emissives.com/mailman/listinfo/skypeenglish_emissives.com
