hey dug!
well, as a matter of fact, I tried install the latest scripts again but only on one version of jaws this time, which is jaws 12, smile, and after it said default settings are updated it still gives me this thing with unknown function, bla bla bla, and I can't even see the desktop actually, which is not so good for the scripts at all, smile

Subject: [Skypeenglish] Of language translations, JAWS data collection, and script updates...

I take a message here from an old thread I started when figuring out
what JAWS versions were running my scripts out there, to address a
point one user made that I missed until now.

The user points out that if, say, a French script version is altered
to go to a French translation of the manual, I never see that in
my web stats because I don't host that translation. A good point
indeed.

I do not wish to solve this by hosting all translations of the manual,
largely because I could then not know what was being said on my own
web site. (I have seen some interesting differences among translations
of my scripts.)

I might consider resolving this one by doing one of two things: Making
a ping of my web site part of the script startup process, or providing
a keystroke that sends me info but without loading a page into the
user's browser. The first of those options is probably preferable
because it would give me a much, much more accurate idea of what
Skype, JAWS, and Windows versions are running out there and what sorts
of problems people are having. I'm not sure if/when I'll get to this
little project, but if I do it in the automatic way, it would probably
make the most sense to do that as part of a long-requested feature
that would let the scripts offer to update themselves. If I ever write
that feature, I am sure to write the automatic info part as part of
it, so I can make sure not to have the scripts update themselves to
something that is wrong for what the user is running.

Including this information would be useful, for example, to open the
INSERT+F1+F1 user guide in the user's language. I made a translation of this
guide into Spanish as well as the script installation instructions and the
explanation of the screen reader not detected error, and surely other people
have done that into their own languages.
