I was just about to write this.
I skype with NVDA and things go okay.
One good thing I notice is that in early skype versions when someone is
calling a pup op comes to tell us who the caller is.

It's possible that Ace may have some good reason for not being able to
upgrade JAWS, so I would suggest that, if the new JAWS scripts don't work
for written chats in Skype with JAWS versions older than 12, they should be
read without using the scrips. This is definitely possible, as I am an NVDA

Here's how you read written chat messages in Skype without using the JAWS
scripts. First of all, you need to open the right chat window: to do this,
find the contact you're doing the written chat with, in either your contact
list or recent chats list, press the Applications key, arrow down to Send
IM, then press Enter. You will most likely land on the edit field where you
would type a message: from here, press shift+tab, hopefully only once, to
where it says "Chat content list", and you can arrow up and down this list
to read written chat messages, the last of these being at the bottom of the
list. This list will also include when calls are started and ended, but all
the chat messages between you and that particular contact will be there too.

Dear friend, you need to upgrade your jaws at least jaws 13, because older
than 12 jaws script for the latest version of skype will not work.
In short install the following 3 things. skype 6.10.0.104, jaws 13 or higher
and jaws script version 9A revision 782.

I get jaws telling me that I have a unread message then I go into looking
under view and activate the IM view and don't see anything.
This use to work.
