Some people for some reason can still use old Skype versions, but doing so can cause problems on the Skype network. One example I've seen is broken conferences where Skype becomes confused as to who is the host, eventually resulting in Skype calls that are audible but actually invisible. That one, obviously, is a bit disconcerting to encounter.
Microsoft appears to be gearing up toward making all Skype versions older than 6.18 (Windows and Mac) go away. The next script release I put out will assume nothing older than Skype 6.18 is still in use for this reason. This has been allowing me to clean up a lot of old code that is no longer needed for older Skype versions. It may be my imagination, but I think it is accurate to say that the scripts are running faster here as I work on them because of this.
