Hello James,
be sure to press f2 from within a chat, such as from within the input
box; otherwise it tries to rename the currently selected contact if
pressed from the contact list.
If you already tested it from a chat and it does not work, tell us your
JAWS version number, chances are there is something wrong with this
particular version and possibly Doug has to look at it...
