Hello Ken,
if you're using Doug's scripts for Skype, try a double alt+shift+f4.
Otherwise, or even if you don't feel good with this command since it's a
three keys combination, do the following:
1. press insert+f11 to view the system tray list. Note that if using
NVDA you will have to use an addon for this command to work;
2. if you see the Skype icon with your online status, press enter on it;
3. scroll the menu, choose exit, and confirm the request.
