Actually, there was the /shutdown command, but I don't know if it
still works in the latest versions of Skype.

run or stop commands and a number of way to use the
running applications manager to stop almost anything and
that's where the problems come in:
Some of the methods are slow to respond and some of the
different ways aren't all that friendly with the

In the day, of the beginnings of screen readers,
because they were such resource hogs you would
always keep your desktop clean as possible and set
up so as little as possible started when you booted
up to keep the preserve the resources IE. speed of
the machine as fast as possible.
So the old dog trick was don't allow anything to run
directly from the DT that wasn't absolutely required
to boot up completely and that would keep you as
light and as stable as possible.
So we tended to only put uniquely labeled shortcuts
on our desktops So the single key jump would work
just like you state.
but I have no apps that run directly from my DT.
But any tricks you or anyone else would ever care to
share, especially for Skype, are always welcome.

Hi mike
Just curious as to why you donÂ’t use initial
letter navigation if you are looking for speed.
i.e, s for skype once on the desktop and q for
quit to unload the application once you are there?
Certainly saves tabbing and arrowing up and down.

Re shutting down Skype with key strokes:
I use window key m which minimizes all running
apps and puts me on the desk top
then I tab twice to the task bar and then right
arrow until I hear Skype
then I either use the windows app key or right
mouse click arrow down until I hear quit Skype and
hit enter
wait about 5 seconds and it unloads
I know this may sound like a lot of key strokes
but it never fails and once learned is very fast
less than ten seconds to Skype closed and out of
it
thanks to the others who shared their different
ways, I just learned a few more key strokes to add
to the millions every blind person already knows!
LOL
If keystrokes were dollars, those of us who are
blind would have the financial markets cornered!
