Hello All,
thanks so much for bringing up this Jaws issue of not reading threads correctly; I use Eudora as my email client and recently it's been reading strange stuff to me like when I'm in an email it's still miss reading it by reading part of the previous email which I would have already closed. I'm only sharing this comment because maybe knowing it's a more wide spread problem would help FS solve the problem. I'm not a computer scripting god like some of you good folks are but I just thought maybe this might really be a text buffering issue with jaws holding on and not holding on to specific lines or partticularly sections of formatted text or line structure.

I apologize if my comments aren't helpful to the topic discussion.

All have a safe weekend,
Mike

Right I remember now. For some reason it didn't quote correctly on my end of things. Well, here's hoping for a fix soon.

It's a reply to a very old message, and the content is fully quoted; so no threading needed for context.

I have worked extensively with Freedom Scientific on this one, but as yet we don't have a solution or a full explanation of this issue. I am greatful to FS for taking time to look at this without much to go on. The issue happens to me now and then on my main computer as well btw; and in fact, at this moment, the issue is
occurring on this machine.

Very interesting! This message from Vic prompted me to do a little
investigating in a different direction. I found that updating or removing
browser plugins can affect the MSAA issue. I specifically discovered that
updating or removing Java or updating Adobe Reader plugins fixed MSAA for
all applications in at least one case.

Raymond, you out there? Not sure if you still have trouble with Skype on
your machine; but now I wonder if updating or removing browser plugins could
fix this.

I admit this does not seem logical on the surface, but results don't lie. :)

That's an odd fix. Glad you got that working. Might though be worth looking
in to to see if math ML is really causing the issue.

Reinstalling MathPlayer fixed the problem, I'm not sure how or why.
Hopefully that provides some direction in where to look.

Technical details on what we know so far, in case this is useful to
anyone:

The problem stems from Skype, and IE I believe and maybe a few other
apps, sometimes returning valid IAccessible objects but that throw
errors when you try to access any object properties. "Sometimes"
appears to mean for certain calls - a consistent set of them - but not
all calls. The error thrown means there is a typlib that is not
registered. Attempting to reregister oleacc.dll in
system32 and syswow64 folders did not
help at least in my tests under Windows 8.1.

Hmmm. Just a thought but if you are willing to do a little trouble
shooting, you could start putting back the offfice addins one by one
and seeing which one makes the skype scrips work. It could be a piece to
the
puzzel and could help Doug and FS figure this out.

I've heard of three or four instances of this issue since last September.
From what I can tell, something is
causing MSAA, which is part of Windows, to stop working normally for
Skype. It may also affect Internet
Explorer, though not in ways that upset most things you would do
there
unless you have custom JAWS scripts for
a particular web page perhaps.

As of this week, I have started working with Freedom Scientific to
try to
figure out what's going on here. It
appears not to be a Skype problem, a JAWS problem, or a script
problem;
but rather either a problem in Windows
or something being installed that is causing the issue. Those are
educated
guesses, but nonetheless, guesses
at this point.

Unfortunately, I do not have a solution to this issue yet though. It
usually works better to revert to Freedom
Scientific's built-in scripts if this happens to you, because the FS
scripts use UIA rather than MSAA. (I did
not do that because it would require JAWS 14 or 15 at a minimum, and
I
still support JAWS versions back
through 11.)

I have seen one instance where using the built-in FS scripts to work
around this issue causes system
sluggishness and/or JAWS restarts while you try to navigate a message
list
though. That happened in a group chat, but
I'm not sure if that is a requirement for the issue.

Sorry I don't have better news yet.

Hi,

I'm using the jaws skype scripts for version 6.22 and later. The
scripts were working fine yesterday and suddenly stopped working
today with the following message when I use a keystroke like ctrl+2

These scripts do not support this Skype version.

I had skype 7.18. I tried reinstalling the scripts, downgrading to
version 7.10 of skype, then reinstalling the scripts once more
without success. Strangely, I know someone else who has no trouble
with the scripts with that version of Skype.

Anyone experiencing a similar issue? The only thing I remember doing
yesterday was removing a few Microsoft office add-ins, so I can't
figure out why this started happening.

Best regards,

-Vic
