Yep, I knew not to click those links, though now that I think on it more, I
should have let my contacts know, unless of corse its too late.
I knew it was not something good, because people I hadn't talked too in a
long time just sent me this weird random link with my Skype ID name.
That's not normal.

Links bearing your Skype id are malicious and should never be clicked. I
believe clicking one of these gives away access to your Skype account, and
subsequently you will find that your Skype account is sending out similar
links
to your contacts.
I have long ago seen a message telling me to type "update" into a chat
window. It was part of a valid conference and, I assume in that context at
least, is a valid alert indicating that the chat itself is based on an old
and
obsolete Skype messaging technology. I believe the host or an admin must
follow that directive in order to make the chat work properly going forward,
but I have not proven this.
In general, typing a text line (that does not begin with a slash) into a
Skype chat window is harmless, but clicking an unexpected link is dangerous.
