That is why I was proposing VRPN for these kind of devices. FreeTrack is Windows-only despite being GPL - most likely because of the video capture code. It would then be trivial to interface basically anything to SL, if the viewer would take camera matrix and allow avatar control from outside. And Lindens wouldn't have to maintain the device specific stuff neither.
