That's a no brainer because your proposal leaves the old API in place.
Someone would just have to write a wrapper that forwards call from the
old APIs to the new ones.
There is no reason to keep two source-compatible APIs in different
packages.
I dare to disagree.
They are compatible while switching from org.slf4j to org.slf4j.n but
not the other way around.
