Yes.
I've done some performance comparisions of Sun Workshop Pro C/C++ 5.0
compiler running with `-fast -xO[3|4|5]' and gcc 2.95.2 (and 2.96)
with `-O[2|3|4]'. gcc was as good as the Sun compiler.
However, the Sun compiler does 64 bit, gcc does not. Our application
is highly optimised anyway, and works faster when in 64 bit mode. On
less optimised code the Sun compiler beats gcc all the time.
