Then take it back and get it replaced quick.
I had a Gateway 2100 that displayed very strange battery/ac power
behaviour. Fire it up plugged into the mains and it was as happy as,
disconnect the mains and it would keep going on the battery no
probs. Turn it off with say 85% battery left and leave if for an
hour. Try and turn it back on, dead as a Dodo!
Connect it to the AC supply for just a second then pull the cord
out, fire it up off the battery no problems 84% battery showing!
I took it back to gateway and they fixed it (I think they replaced
all the internals).
