Okay, thanks to all who replied, but no one has won the lottery so far
{:-(.
The stuff about encrypted/unencrypted was first discovered (24 hours
it took?) and made widely known by the Samba team, before MS picked it
up. I had to misfortune to "upgrade" my Samba at the time and wondered
why my 95 box stopped working and had to carry out the registry edit
back to then.
Anyway - the problem is that the NT box does NOT SEE (browse) any of
the Samba servers. At least one has encrypted passwords set up, so
according to the doco at least one should be seen.
This is a tad embarrasing as late last year I walked into a mate's
place who was playing with linux for the first time and linked his 95
& NT boxes to the linux box in 30 mins. something has gone on holiday
and I feel left behind {:-).
